White Nationalists Among Traditional Catholics Control Narrative
A leaked FBI document repeats history with a fringe group of Trad Caths.
In 2009, the Missouri Information Analysis Center (MIAC) released a report on the modern militia movement. This report was far from perfect but meant to be useful in to assisting law enforcement identify militia groups and help them assess threats. This was not anything new, in 2008 MIAC released a report on anarchists. This was never intended to be spread among the public, however that was not the case.
Copies of the report found members of the newly formed Oath Keepers. Individuals like John Tate lead an effort to reframe this report as law enforcement going after libertarians and Ron Paul supporters. I first learned about this report from MIAC from an episode of the podcast Knowledge Fight where the host reviewed a week of the Alex Jones Show in March of 2009 when Oath Keeper’s Stewart Rhodes came on multiple times to misrepresent the report. This is all to shocking to see that 12 years later, Rhodes would carry out and attempt of seditious conspiracy at the U.S. Capitol while law enforcement failed to act on intelligence.
This should be a lesson that far-right elements have gamed law enforcement. Using political influence, militia groups were able to get the report from MIAC retracted which played a roll in to them to plan unlawful acts in the open for years.
In January of 2023, the FBI’s Richmond office released an internal document about racial and ethnically motivated violence from “Radical-Traditional Catholic Ideology.” This comes at a time when violent attacks come resulting in Kanye Wests anti-semitic campaign. Just like the 2009 MIAC Report, this document got leaked. This 2023 reports mentions growing threats from the Groyper movement with people like Kanye West’s friend Nick Fuentes and their ties to the media outlet Church Militant. I decided to look up Church Militant and found the video “Jews in the News” and came to conclusion that the FBI has a point. Church Militant’s founder Michael Voris is directly connected to Fuentes and Milo Yiannopoulos on their campaigns of anti-semitism.
There are plenty of other examples of anti-semitism from radical traditonal groups like The New Columbia Movement.
While Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin took a stance when condemning the leak of the Dobbs decision, there is yet to be a condemnation towards the person who leaked the FBI internal document. Youngkin created a commission to combat anti-semitism but it shows that he not capable of addressing that when it comes from bigots who also happen to be hiding behind the Catholic faith.
Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares decided to misrepresent the report just like in 2009 with the MIAC Report. Miyares describes the report saying that “anti-Catholic bigotry appears to be festering in the FBI” while ignoring that the report is focused on white nationalists that are posing a threat to the communities like the Jewish community. This internal document clearly states, “potential criminality exhibited by certain members of a group referenced herein does not negate nor is it a comment on the constitutional rights of the group itself or its members to exercise their rights under the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.”
Last week the FBI office in Richmond retracted the document that was leaked and Miyares joined 19 other Attorney Generals in a letter to U.S. Attorney General.
This shows that the radical tradition Catholics like Nick Fuentes can continue their campaigns to encourage racially and ethnically motivated violence towards marginalized communities while playing the victims that Catholics are being persecuted because law enforcement attempted to acknowledge the threat they pose.
Last year, Virginian Joseph Brody was arrested for his role in the January 6 attacks. His charges include attack on a law enforcement officer. Brody used traditional Catholic beliefs with his white national identity. Brody was not just an isolated individual; Brody was a paid campaigner for Glenn Youngkin’s campaign for Governor. Brody follows the path of Republican turned elder Groyper Fredy Burgos who was removed from the party after saying the Jewish people should not run for office.
